Throw-back 90's Hip-hop:: Vote on your favorite in our latest poll (to the right)
Remember the early 90's? Good times. I had one of those shaved-underneath haircuts, wore ridiculously huge baggy jean-shorts, and pretended I knew how to skate. I also used to play sick to skip school, order Domino's, watch Jean-Claude Van Damme movies, and memorize tons of hip-hop lyrics. Below you will find a few of my favorites from that era. If you are anything like me, most should be familiar. I am sure some of you even take deep pride in knowing them word for word. This is both awesome and impressive. To be true, I fell in love with my wife again that night in 2007 when she (somewhat disturbingly) revealed she knew every line to "Gimme that Nut" by Eazy-E during a campfire sing-along. This was truly a time of great, great, music...

Now those are some classics. Thanks for the memory trip!
ReplyDeleteWow. You've curated a fine assortment of tracks. Well done. I will vote for ... all of them? I'm constitutionally incapable of not ranking something hip-hop related so bear with me...
ReplyDelete(this is based simply on TRACK, not group or overall catalog)
1a) Nothin' But a G Thang (might not be a better, more recognizable beginning to ANY song. And I've probably embarrassed myself by rapping to this song more than any other. Slightest of edges over...)
1b) Passin' Me By (can't believe this is second)
1c) It Was a Good Day (I'm not a big Ice Cube fan but he f*cked around and got a triple double on this one)
1d) Electric Relaxation (this might only be the second or third best song on Midnight Marauders, which tells you how incredible that album was)
1e) Rebirth of Slick (most indelible hip hop hook ever?)
1f) Keep Ya Head Up (kills me to put a Pac song last but the competition was stiff)
Ohhhhhhh Crappy. This does take me back indeed. If I tell you that I know every word to every one of these songs will you fall in love with me as well? (I do, you know.) But the Today Was a Good Day's much happier and more uplifting remix cousin gets no love?

And on that note, "I gotta go cuz I got me a drop top and if I hit the switch, I can make that aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasss
DROP!"
P.S. It's Tijana. Oh hello.
Yay, this was fun! I voted for Tribe & Pharcyde, but what happened to De La Soul tho?? :/
ReplyDelete@Attica: Great freakin' name, Ms. Wolfcastle, Esq. And thanks for the reminder on the remix. Love it.
ReplyDelete@Alicia, yeah, I hear you on the De La. In truth, though, I didn't get into their music until way later, so it doesn't have the same nostalgia factor for me as the other songs posted here.
